Recreational Classes

Our recreational programs serve many purposes including non-competitive options for those wishing to try out Cheerleading prior to entering our competitive programs, and supplementing training for another sport with a tumbling, fitness or flexibility class.

 

We currently offer recreational / non-competitive classes for the following disciplines:

  • Recreational Cheer

  • Tumbling

  • Flexibility

  • Fitness​

  • Combo (Tumble & Dance)

  • Little Ninja

Tumbling, flexibility and fitness classes are also offered to athletes who are not enrolled in any cheerleading class.  See our recreational / non-competitive classes below.

Recreational Cheerleading

Recreational Cheerleading is designed as an introduction to cheerleading for young athletes prior to entering the competitive program, or for those who do not wish to compete.  It aims to teach athletes the basics of cheerleading. Safe stunting and introduction to choreography are two of the main focuses in recreational cheerleading. No experience is required in the recreational program.

 

After developing the basic skills in the recreational cheerleading program, athletes will be ready to train in a more structured, skill-focused program. A perfect fit for those who want to try cheer before entering the competitive program!

Athletes who also want to try a tumbling class can register in Recreational Tumbling which is an additional 45 minute class.  There is a 15 minute supervised snack break between Rec Cheer and Rec Tumble!

Non-Competitive  Recreational Classes

Gridder Cheer offers non-competitive tumbling classes.  These classes are great for athletes who do not want to commit to our competitive or recreational programs, or wish to supplement other sports and activities with tumbling training.

Teeny Tumbling

Ages 3-4

Join us to learn some tumbling basics!  Teeny Tiny Tumble is great for athletes who are looking to try something new, or work on their existing skills!  Teeny Tiny Tumble is also a great starting point for tiny athletes who want to get their foot in the door to start their cheer journey!  This class focuses on basic tumbling skills, coordination, and of course - FUN!

Tiny Tumbling

Ages 5-6

Join us to learn some tumbling basics!  Tiny Tumble is great for athletes who are looking to try something new, or work on their existing skills!  Tiny Tumble is also a great starting point for tiny athletes who want to get their foot in the door to start their cheer journey!  This class focuses on basic tumbling skills, coordination, and of course - FUN!

Walkovers 101

Ages 7+

Our Walkover class is designed for those who are working to independently execute or improve the technique of their front and back walkovers.  Basic skills of bridges, handstands, cartwheels and roundoffs will also be incorporated into drills and circuits, as most tumbling skills pass through these basic body positions.  

Tumble training is essential to moving to the next level in cheerleading.  Your athlete will become stronger with every rep and drill they do.  Ongoing training will help your athlete progress safely with new skills.  

This class is also great for those multi-sport athletes who want to work on their skills, increase strength, and gain body awareness.

Handsprings & Aerials

Ages 7+

Our Handspring class is designed for those who are working to independently execute or improve the technique of their front and back handsprings.  Tumble training is essential to moving to the next level in cheerleading.  Your athlete will become stronger with every rep and drill they do.  Ongoing training will help your athlete progress safely with new skills.  

This class is also great for multi-sport athletes who want to work on their skills, increase strength, and gain body awareness.

Combo

Combo Ages 5+

Combo Ages 7+

Combo Class is a combination of tumbling and pom dance.  It aims to give athletes the opportunity to experience multiple disciplines. If you love to dance, but need a bit more action - combo is the perfect fit for you!  No experience is required in the combo class.

After developing basic skills in combo class, athletes may choose be join a competitive program. An ideal opportunity to try out both cheer and pom if deciding where you fit in our competitive program!

Little Ninjas

Ages 5+

Little Ninjas is the all-new sport discipline inspired by gymnastics, martial arts,
obstacle training, and freestyle movement for girls and boys 5 years old or older.

Children learn a combination of flips, rolls, jumps, and kicks. Strength and agility are tested through obstacle courses and various training techniques.

Flexibility & Fitness

Flexibility and Fitness classes are offered to both competitive and non-competitive athletes. 

 

Our flexibility classes are geared towards our "flyer" athletes, but are great for anyone interested in gaining flexibility.  This 45 minute class includes circuits with stretches targeted at hip, shoulder, upper and lower back, quads, hamstrings and calves.  Classes also include ab exercises which strengthen core muscles.  Fitness testing is done monthly so that athletes can track their progress.  Non-competitive athletes who wish to enroll in a flexibility class will be integrated into a class with competitive athletes.  

​

Our fitness classes are also great supplemental training for cross-training.  Most sports have one thing in common - strength and conditioning are required!  Our fitness classes work to develop strength in all areas of the body through interval training.  Sports are demanding - meet that demand by training your muscles! Whether you are in dance, synchronized swimming, gymnastics, hockey, Taekwondo, football, or another sport - our fitness classes will challenge you and keep you in great shape!  Build strength and endurance with one of our fitness classes.  Non-competitive athletes who wish to enroll in a fitness class will be integrated into a class with competitive athletes.

Open Gym

Open gym is an extra session for all current members and non-members. Work on new and current skills during these classes, you can come to as many or as few sessions as you'd like.

Private & Semi Privates

Gridder Cheer offers private and semi-private tumbling classes.  These individualized classes are designed to provide individualized instruction with one of our Certified Coaches to enhance your existing skills and build new ones. Private and semi-private lessons are a great way to get personalized feedback and numerous repetitions of drills.
